IOM CALLS FOR SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN PUBLIC HEALTH RESEARCH SUPPORT:
On Monday, November 4, 2002, the Institute of Medicine released its landmark report, "Who Will Keep the Public Healthy?  Educating Public Health Professionals for the 21st Century."  The report notes the significant contribution public health research plays in improving the public’s health.  In addition to calling for increased funding for practice research, the IOM recommends greater focus on community-based research and increased academic/practice/community partnerships for embarking on this research.  The IOM report can be accessed by visiting http://www.nap.edu/books/030908542X/html.
