For 16 years the Council - a coalition of representatives from 17 national organizations - has worked to further academic/practice collaboration to assure a well-trained, competent workforce and a strong, evidence-based public health infrastructure.
After a one year hiatus, the Council is back with new funding provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Our new projects include working to update the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals and map the public health workforce pipeline.
Among its past accomplishments, the Council has worked to:
-
foster linkages between academic institutions and practice agencies and organizations
-
develop the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals to guide curriculum and workforce development
-
promote public health systems research to increase understanding of and improve public health infrastructure
-
focus the field on evidence-based strategies to improve worker recruitment and retention and combat emerging worker shortages
