Description:
There are many current and past efforts in the public health competencies area. The
Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice has committed to assist
the U.S. Public Health Service in efforts to implement components of the report, The
Public Health Workforce: An Agenda for the 21st Century, pertaining to public health
competencies. The list of competencies offered in the Public Health Workforce report
is a comprehensive collection of available lists from the wide range of public health
fields. This list needs to be looked at and cross-walked with other lists, and then
needs refined and reviewed for its general application to the field. This session
would take the Council one step closer to a refined and validated list of universal public
health competencies for individuals trained at the Masters level and it would give
participants a preview of whats to come. A final list is expected to be
released in December, 2000. This list will ultimately help guide curriculum
and content development of public health education and training programs.
The Council on Linkages will present a draft list of
universal public health competencies, developed by the Council on Linkages. The list
is being based on ten years of work in this area as well as input from public health
practitioners and academicians. This interactive session will continue the process
of refining, validating and promoting the use of this list. It will also assist the
Council on Linkages in determining effective ways to promote the use of public health
competencies.
