Developing a National Public Health Practice Research Agenda

The disconnect between the public health practice and research communities has resulted in inadequate translation of research at the community level leading to less effective community health programming.  To identify and promote research to meet community needs, the Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice has begun a strategy for a public and private partnership to develop a comprehensive public health practice research agenda.  The strategy includes developing a framework using the Essential Public Health Services and Healthy People 2010 as guidelines.

The session will:

1) discuss scope of the research agenda;
2) discuss benefits to funders, researchers, users, and communities;
3) review the research agenda framework;
4) present pieces of the framework that have been filled in;
5) give participants the opportunity fill in a piece of the framework;
6) give participants the opportunity to contribute to further refinement of the framework; and
7) discuss next steps.
