APHA 144th Annual Meeting - The Public Health Workforce: Building the Future

Category: Program

Related Categories: Workforce Development

Location: Colorado Convention Center, Bellco Theatre, 700 14th St., Denver

Start Date: 11/1/2016

End Date: 11/1/2016

Over the past several years there has been much discussion about the changing public health workforce and the training needs of the workforce of the future. Several initiatives, such as the Framing the Future Task Force, the Council on Education for Public Health accreditation criteria, and multiple initiatives by the de Beaumont Foundation have been underway to identify, clarify, develop, and implement training and professional development activities to address those issues. At the American Public Health Association’s (APHA’s) 2015 Annual Meeting, public health professionals from APHA, the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health, the Council on Education in Public Health, the Public Health Foundation, and the de Beaumont Foundation outlined how these initiatives are aligning and contributing to developing an even stronger public health workforce for the future. During a 90-minute interactive session at APHA’s 2016 Annual Meeting this fall in Denver, CO, a panel of experts and architects of the competencies, skills, and training necessary for the public health workforce will conduct a lively interactive discussion on where the field is now; what new initiatives are on the horizon; and how public health practitioners in academia, governmental public health, philanthropy, and the nonprofit sectors can come together to build the best public health workforce of the future. This session will provide an opportunity to learn how the various public health workforce development initiatives build upon one another and how the new initiatives will impact the public health workforce of the future. Participants will have ample opportunity for questions, answers, and discussion during the session.
