Category: Program

Related Categories: Council on Linkages, Workforce Development

Location: Georgia World Congress Center, Room A409, 285 Andrew Young International Blvd NW, Atlanta

Start Date: 11/6/2017

End Date: 11/6/2017

The public health workforce plays a critical role in ensuring the health of the population, but how do we ensure that we have a strong public health workforce? Workforce development efforts nationwide help to build competencies and skills within the workforce, but rather than being seen as an integral component of all public health efforts, workforce development may be perceived as a luxury. As the public health field continues to evolve and new competencies and skills are needed to be successful in roles like community chief health strategist, there is an urgent need to shift this perspective. The public health community must come together to clearly demonstrate the importance of the public health workforce to achieving population health objectives and make the case for the resources necessary to sustain a high performing workforce.

Join the Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice (Council on Linkages), which brings together 22 influential public health organizations to highlight and take action on workforce development, for this 90-minute interactive session to hear from national leaders about how their organizations are working to demonstrate the value of the public health workforce, advocate for the public health workforce, and provide funding to support public health workforce development. Through a panel discussion moderated by Council on Linkages Chair C. William Keck, MD, MPH, and framed by John Auerbach, MBA, Trust for America’s Health, panelists Ed Hunter, MA, de Beaumont Foundation; Phyllis Meadows, PhD, Kresge Foundation; and Judy Monroe, MD, CDC Foundation, will explore these key areas to driving progress toward an even stronger public health workforce. Participants will have ample opportunity for questions, answers, and discussion during the session.
