Accreditation Preparation

Overview

Health departments are preparing for the Public Helath Accreditation Board voluntary accreditation program. The Public Health Foundation (PHF) works closely with state, tribal, local, and territorial health departments to help them implement Quality Improvement (QI) Tools and Techniques (Domain 9) and assess Workforce Development (Domain 8).

Domain 9 Resources: Evaluating and continuously improving health department process, programs, and interventions.

  • PHF's QI Experts can tailor QI training to meet local needs. Our consultants have extensive experience in developing, refining, and improving QI tools and techniques for public health practitioners. Complete an inquiry form to speak with one of our staff members.

  • Our extensive Quality Improvement Learning Series Course Catalog provides public health agencies and organizations with a wide variety of QI programs, tools, and techniques for the implementation and expansion of QI. The catalog was updated in August 2011 and 3 new courses were added that specifically help health departments prepare for Domain 9 of accreditation:
    • 210: Rapid Cycle QI Project Facilitation
    • 211: Preparing for Domain 9
    • 212: Preparing a Quality Plan

  • The recently updated Public Health Improvement Resource Center offers more than 300 resources covering most any need a health department might have. Conduct a keyword search on Accreditation or Domain 9 to locate specific resources that can be used immediately.

Domain 8 Resources: Maintaining a competent public health workforce.

  • The Academic Health Department (AHD) Learning Community is a national community of practice around the formal affiliation between an academic institution and a public health practice organization.

  • The Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals may be used by health departments to begin understanding levels of staff competence, identifying gaps in competence, and formulating workforce development plans that meet staff training needs.

  • Through TRAIN, the nation's premier Learning Management System, affiliate states and their respective health departments can track training that has been offered and who has completed it. TRAIN has robust reporting capabilities to help managers and employers identify necessary training and track employee performance, development, and accountability.

  • The Learning Resource Center, PHF's online store, distributes more than 300 public health resources. It provides practitioners with essential information, high quality affordable materials, fast delivery, online ordering through a secure server, toll-free lines, and excellent customer service.

Make sure you also review the Resources & Tools section for a complete listing of presentations, white papers, case studies, and more related to Quality Improvement and Workforce Development.
