Healthy People 2010 AssistanceHealthy People 2010 Toolkit - A Field Guide to Health PlanningThe Healthy People 2010 Toolkit provides guidance, technical tools, and resources to help states, territories, and tribes develop and promote successful state-specific Healthy People 2010 plans and to engage in advance preparations for 2015 or 2020 plans. It can also serve as a resource for communities and other entities embarking on similar health planning endeavors. This Toolkit is organized around seven major "action areas," which were derived from national and state Healthy People initiatives. With the assistance and guidance of the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Public Health Foundation reviewed both year 2000 and year 2010 initiatives and identified these seven areas as common elements of most health planning and improvement efforts. The seven action areas are:
Each action area includes an explanation and checklist of major tasks, tips for success, national and state examples to illustrate Healthy People processes in action, recommended "hot picks" of resources for further information, and planning tools that can be easily adapted to state or local needs. The web-based version of the Toolkit offers users enhanced access, navigation, and search capabilities. The web version is available at: www.healthypeople.gov/state/toolkit.
The Toolkit was developed by the Public Health Foundation with funding from the HHS Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. For more information about the Toolkit and its uses, please e-mail Jacalyn Carden.
Healthy People 2010 Information Access ProjectThe Public Health Foundation worked in conjunction with the National Library of Medicine (NLM) and the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM) to establish an online resource making information and evidence-based strategies related to the Healthy People 2010 objectives easier to find. By clicking on specific search strategies, users may explore PubMed, an NLM database that provides access to over 11 million citations from MEDLINE and additional life science journals. NLM is continually expanding the available searches to cover objectives in all Healthy People 2010 focus areas. As examples, click on the focus areas listed below to link to specific search strategies:
Features of the site include the ability to access many full-text articles online or via "LoansomeDoc" and the option to limit your PubMed search to focus on different age groups, genders, or publication types. The site includes links to many sites and other related resources, such as relevant Guidelines to Clinical and Community Preventive Services. This collaborative project was designed to provide public health professionals with timely, convenient access to information resources to help them improve the health of the public. In 2005 PHF conducted focus groups and analyzed usage data to recommend improvements to the site. For more information about the project, please e-mail Jacalyn Carden or use our Online Form to tell us what you think.
Healthy Delaware 2010The Public Health Foundation provided technical assistance to the Delaware Division of Public Health in developing, publishing, and marketing the State's 2010 health objectives. Healthy Delaware 2010 was launched in April 2001. Visit the Healthy Delaware 2010 Home Page at www.healthydelaware.com. The project utilized many of the 2010 planning tools developed by PHF for the Healthy People 2010 Toolkit, tailored to meet the needs of Delaware and its 2010 steering group. Many tools developed specifically for the Delaware project are posted on the State Healthy People 2010 Tool Library. For more information about the Healthy Delaware project, contact Jacalyn Carden.
Regional Healthy People 2010 ResourcesWith funding from the HHS Office of Public Health and Science, PHF set up a Regional Healthy People 2010 website and provided resource listings, event information, and contacts to help regional partners get involved in Healthy People 2010 activities. Organized by regional priority focus areas, the site offers opportunities to download or print fact sheets with evidence-based resources for technical assistance in the following topics:
