Recent progress on two Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice (Council on Linkages) initiatives will be highlighted in a session on Workforce Development in Public Health during the upcoming American Public Health Association (APHA) Annual Meeting: the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals and the Public Health Training Impact initiative. The Workforce Development in Public Health session will be held on Monday, October 29th from 8:30-10:00 am in the Marriott Marquis Hotel, Sierra I.

Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals
The Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals (Core Competencies) are a consensus set of skills desirable for the broad practice of public health. The Council on Linkages is currently developing tools to help public health professionals and organizations integrate the Core Competencies into their work. These tools will be featured in Enabling Competency-Based Public Health Workforce Development (Presentation #260766), running from 8:30-8:50 am. Special focus will be given to competency assessments and quality improvement tools for prioritizing competency development within an organization.

Public Health Training Impact
Since last fall, the Council on Linkages has been exploring strategies and methods for improving and measuring the impact of training through its Public Health Training Impact initiative. The results of this exploration will be presented in Maximizing the Impact of Public Health Training (Presentation #260874) from 9:10-9:30 am. The full set of strategies and methods developed through this initiative are available in the newly released Improving and Measuring the Impact of Training: Strategies and Methods, which offers training institutions and programs, trainers, public health organizations, and sponsors of training a guide to navigating the training and evaluation process.

In addition, Council on Linkages resources will be available at the Public Health Foundation's exhibit booth (Booth #2608) and staff will be happy to answer questions about these and other Council on Linkages initiatives.
