Learn More about the 2014 Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals

Missed the recent webinars on the 2014 Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals (Core Competencies)? Webinars held in collaboration with the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO), National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), and Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) over the past few months have been archived and are now available online. All three webinars offer an overview of this latest version of the Core Competencies, with the webinar co-hosted by NACCHO also including examples of how two local health departments have used the Core Competencies and the webinar with ASPPH featuring how two schools of public health have integrated the Core Competencies into curriculum development and workforce training. View the webinars co-hosted by ASTHO, NACCHO, or ASPPH to learn more and contact Janelle Nichols at jnichols@phf.org with any questions.

Explore How Academic Health Department Partnerships Can Support PHAB Accreditation

As health departments work to achieve accreditation through the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB), partnerships with academic institutions can provide support for a variety of areas of the PHAB Standards and Measures. Opportunities for collaboration between health departments and academic institutions related to national voluntary health department accreditation were explored at the most recent Academic Health Department Learning Community meeting, held earlier this month. Featuring a presentation by PHAB's Director of Research and Evaluation, Jessica Kronstadt, MPP, this meeting was archived and can be accessed online for those interested in learning more. Visit Accreditation and Academic Health Departments to watch the archive or download a copy of the presentation slides. Questions or additional ideas for collaboration can be sent to Kathleen Amos at kamos@phf.org.

Highlight Your Organization's Work with the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals

Are you using the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals (Core Competencies)? The Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice is seeking examples of how health departments, academic institutions, and other organizations are integrating the Core Competencies into their work. Job descriptions that incorporate the Core Competencies, workforce development plans that include the Core Competencies, and other examples of Core Competencies use are currently being shared online, and new resources to add to these collections are invited from the broad public health community. Submit your examples to Janelle Nichols at jnichols@phf.org today to highlight the valuable work of your organization and help support others in their workforce development efforts.

Activities of the Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice are supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
