Foundations of Public Health Preparedness, a national training plan, is now available through TRAIN, the premier learning network for professionals who protect the nation’s health. Jointly launched by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response (OPHPR) Learning Office and the Public Health Foundation, the training plan was formally introduced in April during a webinar, Training for Results: Preparedness and Emergency Response Core Competency-Based Training. The webinar was attended by over 250 public health professionals from around the country and the recorded version is now available on TRAIN.

To access the training plan, search TRAIN via the “By Training Plan” Advanced Search functionality or access this direct link.

The webinar also introduces frontline public health workers to courses available on TRAIN that have been assigned one or more of the Public Health Preparedness and Response (PHPR) Core Competencies and/or the Public Health Preparedness (PHEP) Capabilities. The PHPR Core Competencies, which form the basis for the national training plan, and the PHEP Capabilities provide strategic direction, support, and coordination for state, tribal, local, and territorial public health departments to meet training needs and address gaps in individual competence and organizational capabilities.

Public health professionals are also invited provide feedback on the training plan. By incorporating continuous feedback and reviewing the training plan, Foundations of Public Health Preparedness can be updated to reflect changes in the preparedness landscape. Feedback can be submitted directly to Public Health Foundation.
