PHF Announces “I’m Your Community Guide!” Contest Winners

Today, the Public Health Foundation (PHF) is pleased to announce the winners of the "I'm Your Community Guide!" Contest, which is designed to identify model practices for implementing the evidence-based strategies outlined in the Guide to Community Preventive Services (Community Guide).
 
St. James-Santee Family Health Center has been awarded first place for their story, “Black Corals: A Breast Cancer Screening Promotion Project for African American Women in South Carolina.”  They implemented findings and recommendations from the Community Guide to implement a breast and cervical cancer screening promotion program, which increased Pap smear and mammogram rates by 10% and decreased missed appointment rates by 30%.  Learn more about their success with the Community Guide.
 
“Increasing Immunization Rates for Two Year Old Children in the Duval County Health Department Clinics” from the Duval County Health Department came in second place.  Their use of Community Guide vaccination recommendations increased 4:3:1:3:3:1 series immunization rates among their two-year-old population by 15% in two years.  Learn more about their success with the Community Guide.
 
Third place went to Whidbey General Hospital for their entry, “Tobacco Free for Good.”  They achieved a tobacco quit rate of 35-40% in one year in their community using Community Guide tobacco interventions.  Learn more about their success with the Community Guide.
