Make Sure Your Voice is Heard: Share Your Feedback on the Core Competencies by February 28th

Haven’t yet had a chance to share your thoughts on the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals (Core Competencies)? As the Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice begins revising the Core Competencies, your feedback will help ensure this set of foundational competencies continues to reflect the reality of working in public health and meets the needs of the public health workforce. A final open virtual town hall meeting on the Core Competencies will be held on February 23, 2021, and feedback is welcome through February 28, 2021. COVID-19 Vaccination Training

Many health professionals administering COVID-19 vaccinations have extensive experience with immunization practices, but for others, this may be their first clinical experience with vaccination. The Public Health Foundation (PHF), working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has compiled current vaccine storage, handling, administration, and communication trainings, along with trainings specific to the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, and made them easily accessible through the training plan already taken by more than 2,600 learners, COVID-19 Vaccination Training Programs for Healthcare Professionals.

Limiting Wasted COVID-19 Vaccine

Preparing for the unexpected is essential to limit wasted COVID-19 vaccine. PHF developed a quality improvement tool, the Process Decision Program Chart for COVID-19 Vaccine Waste, to help you identify factors that may lead to wasted vaccine and prepare to mitigate those situations. As the number of available COVID-19 vaccinations is increasing across the country, hospital staff, program managers, health professionals, and other vaccinators need information on shipping, handling, preparation, and administration of COVID-19 vaccines. PHF has updated an overview of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine logistics and added additional resources for dry ice safety and handling, training on vaccine preparation and administration, and clinical guidelines and recommendations. Building on the Shared Experience of COVID-19 to Improve Communications

PHF Board Member Dr. Don Warne Named to Explorers Club

Congratulations to Don Warne, MD, MPH, Director of the Indians into Medicine and Master of Public Health Programs at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences and PHF Board Member, for his selection to the Explorers Club. The Explorers Club is an international professional society advancing science and exploration to “preserve the instinct to explore.” Dr. Warne joins honorees such as Neil Armstrong and Jane Goodall. CDC Evaluation Fellowship Program Accepting Applications

The CDC Evaluation Fellowship Program is now accepting applications for its 2021 class. This fellowship is a two-year program, and 2021 fellows are anticipated to start in August 2021. Fellows are placed in host programs across CDC working on program evaluation activities. The application deadline is March 14, 2021, 11:59pm EST.
