Did You Know?

The only body part that doesn’t receive blood is the cornea - your eye's clear, protective outer layer. Most tissues in the body contain blood vessels to receive nourishment and protect against infection, but the cornea is the only body part that lacks blood vessels and therefore does not receive blood. Blood vessels in the cornea would compromise its transparency so it is nourished in other ways, such as from tear fluid.

Heart of New Ulm: Population Health Takes a Village (Webinar Archive)

This archived webinar shares the success of an exciting partnership focused on heart health. In New Ulm, Minnesota, the program entitled "Hearts Beat Back: The Heart of New Ulm" has reduced heart attacks and heart disease risk in a rural Minnesota town. Over the first five years of the program, which included data on three-fourths of all community residents, results included significant improvements in blood pressure, total cholesterol, triglycerides, and glucose. This initiative was a truly innovative community-wide effort, combining leaders and organizations in healthcare, local government, public schools, chamber of commerce, and department of parks and recreation, among others.
