Sponsored by the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) and the Association for Prevention Teaching and Research (APTR), the 2012 National Health Promotion Summit will take place April 10-11, 2012 in Washington, DC. The objectives of the 2012 National Health Promotion Summit are:
  • Promote the development of disease prevention and health promotion policies that align with national prevention initiatives;
  • Encourage stakeholders at every level to collaborate on reaching national health goals; and
  • Integrate health policies across all sectors.1
The summit will focus on the increasingly significant issues of health promotion, such as disease prevention, ending health disparity, and tackling HIV/AIDS. The Affordable Care Act and Healthy People 2020, both relevant to the goals of a healthier nation, affect health promotion and disease prevention and will be explored at the Summit.

TRAIN, a web-based learning management community made possible through collaborative partnerships amongst public health organizations, departments, and funders, provides a one-stop-shop for public health training.  To learn more about TRAIN, the Public Health Foundation’s TRAIN team invites attendees to join us for the Speed Share session at 10:45 AM on April 10th for the “Promoting Collaborative Prevention Training: A Learning Management Community Approach” presentation. The Speed Share sessions provide attendees with an opportunity to rotate across three different 10 minute presentations over a 75-minute span. Sessions also include 10 minutes for a question and answer period. Attendees will:
  • Identify the importance of sharing competency-based disease prevention and health promotion trainings across jurisdictional lines
  • Demonstrate TRAIN’s role in expanding access to quality education through economies of scale
  • Enhance awareness of web-based collaborative training models
The presentation will introduce and explore how TRAIN provides a venue for public health professionals to manage their trainings from classroom based courses, workshops, exercises, and web-based interactive trainings, and a total of 26 domains of delivering training. In addition, the presentation will illustrate how TRAIN provides an innovative solution that ensures access to high-quality education and training that supports the needs of health departments, states, and national organizations by promoting, in concert with the Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice, competency-based training. TRAIN enables public health professionals to seamlessly share valuable training and educational resources over a web-based platform and encourages stakeholders across levels of public health governance to operate collaboratively in fostering opportunities to meet national health goals in health promotion and disease prevention.

We encourage attendees to stop by the 10:45 AM Speed Share session on April 10th and get acquainted with TRAIN through the “Promoting Collaborative Prevention Training: A Learning Management Community Approach” presentation.
