PHF Promotes CDC's Winnable Battles
PHF

Overview

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Winnable Battles are public health priorities with large-scale impact on health and with known, effective strategies to address them. Each area is a leading cause of illness, injury, disability, or death, and/or represents enormous societal costs.

Evidence-based, scalable interventions such as those recommended in The Guide to Community Preventive Services (The Community Guide) already exist and can be broadly implemented to fight many of these priority areas. The Community Guide is a free resource and is the best place to find evidence-based recommendations and findings from The Community Preventive Services Task Force.

The Public Health Foundation (PHF) has partnered with CDC to build awareness and knowledge of CDC’s Winnable Battles. Resources from PHF's Online Store, courses from TRAIN, and other tools offered through PHF can be used by public health and other professionals to build the capacity to be successful. With a concentrated effort, significant progress can be made in these Winnable Battle areas in a relatively short timeframe – generally within one to four years. For example, through use of Performance Management and Quality Improvement techniques, health departments are achieving improved health outcomes related to the Winnable Battles.

As a part of PHF’s ongoing activities to promote CDC’s Winnable Battles, PHF will be engaging in the following activities:

Conference participation:
PHF participates in local, regional, and national conferences to promote Winnable Battles.

Future of Public Health Award
The Future of Public Health Award is a national award program that promotes the use of quality improvement (QI) to influence positive outcomes in Winnable Battles.  State, tribal, local, and territorial health departments can receive on-site technical assistance to build capacity in QI. For more information, visit the Future of Public Health Award page.
