Performance Management Applications in Public Health

Overview

As part of the 2012 Turning Point Performance Management Refresh activity, the Public Health Foundation (PHF) has compiled and is sharing examples of current performance management applications in public health. These one-page overviews demonstrate how health departments have been successful in applying a customized approach to strategically improve the performance of their agency to better serve and improve the health of the community. Each overview includes an image of the performance application, a summary paragraph, and the health department contact for more information. View all 10 overviews or download them individually below.

Kansas is re-vitalizing the Turning Point Performance Management model for the agency. Thanks to Julia Gray's request for me to share Kansas' performance management application, I had the opportunity to review the examples of other state health departments and the Houston Department of Health and Human Services. This was helpful for me to take a very conceptual framework and operationalize the model using our agency's past and current performance management efforts. As the Kansas Department of Health and Environment continues work across three Divisions to improve effectiveness and efficiency of services and accreditation readiness activities, the Kansas performance application document will be a visual tool to illustrate for staff and partners how the Turning Point work done previously serves to guide and build our future endeavors!
