Summer is Quickly Approaching: Are You Prepared?
This past year brought some extreme weather events including: multiple devastating hurricanes throughout the South and US Territories, wildfires on the West coast, and coastal flooding with hurricane force winds on the East coast. Many weather and environmental threats are more likely to occur during summer months, which serves as an important reminder to be prepared. You and your community should be prepared before, during, and after a crisis occurs. Preparedness begins with a well-trained and competent workforce.  Explore TRAIN Learning Network courses tagged with the Public Health Preparedness Capabilities and/or the Public Health Preparedness and Response Core Competencies before summer begins. Stay safe and stay prepared.

Summer Preparedness Resources
  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC's) Zika Travel Information page for the most up-to-date information on Zika before you make travel plans this summer.

  • The National Preparedness Report summarizes the progress that the nation has made in becoming more secure and resilient across five mission areas: Prevention, Protection, Mitigation, Response, and Recovery. It also identifies where challenges and opportunities for improvement remain.

  • Ready.gov offers information on what to do before, during, and after thunderstorms and lightning, which occur more frequently during the summer months.
