The Public Health Foundation’s (PHF) Online Store offers resources from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Get Smart: Know When Antibiotics Work campaign to educate and inform the community about the appropriate use of antibiotics. It is essential for public health and health professionals to use Get Smart materials to promote optimal antibiotic use.

The following Get Smart resources are available from PHF’s Online Store:
These materials explain the following six simple and smart facts about antibiotic use:
  1. Antibiotics are life-saving drugs
  2. Antibiotics only treat bacterial infections
  3. Some ear infections DO NOT require an antibiotic
  4. Most sore throats DO NOT require an antibiotic
  5. Green colored mucus is NOT a sign that an antibiotic is needed
  6. There are potential risks when taking any prescription drug

"The Snort, Sniffle and Sneeze materials were well-designed, and created with a focus on what would influence patients and providers. It was helpful for us to leverage these materials for use with our providers."  Amy N. Swanson, Vice President of Marketing, Advocacy and Member Experience, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Ohio, Inc.

"I work in the quality management department with Amerigroup, Tennessee. Amerigroup utilized the Get Smart: Know When Antibiotics Work campaign materials for education with our Provider Network. We also provide Get Smart posters and brochures to our Providers when we go out for office visits, and encourage the Providers to post these materials in their offices. Amerigroup has received very positive feedback on these materials, especially the Snort, Sniffle, Sneeze. No Antibiotics Please posters and brochures. When visiting providers, I also get positive feedback on the Antibiotics Aren't Always the Answer: Six Simple Facts About Antibiotic Use, which are excellent materials for patients."  Pam Gibson, RN, Clinical Quality Audit Analyst, Sr. Amerigroup Quality Management Plan
