This paper shows how the National Health Education Competencies (developed by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing) and the Core Public Health Competencies (developed by the
Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice) were compared qualitatively to determine the extent of overlap between the two sets. Results showed that 33% of competencies were similar. These results have implications for pre- and in-service training for public health professionals including health educators, hiring practices in public health, and marketing of health education graduates.
