Heart of New Ulm: Population Health Takes a Village (Webinar Archive)

Overview

This archived webinar shares the success of an exciting partnership focused on heart health. In New Ulm, Minnesota, the program entitled "Hearts Beat Back: The Heart of New Ulm" has reduced heart attacks and heart disease risk in a rural Minnesota town. Over the first five years of the program, which included data on three-fourths of all community residents, results included significant improvements in blood pressure, total cholesterol, triglycerides, and glucose. Improvements were largely driven by individuals at high-risk levels at the start of the program. This innovative initiative was led by the New Ulm Medical Center (part of Allina Health) in partnership with Brown County Public Health, the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation, healthcare, city leaders and government, local public schools, chamber of commerce, and department of parks and recreation.

This one-hour webinar was presented on March 21, 2018 as part of the Public Health Foundation (PHF) Population Health Webinar Series. Download the presentation slides from this webinar to learn more. Answers to questions submitted during the webinar are also available.
