The Public Health Foundation (PHF) and the American Public Health Association (APHA) have worked collaboratively to develop a tool to help health departments assess and improve performance of their policy activities. The tool is geared towards health departments that are familiar with performance measurement and are already engaged in policy activities. This is the first tool to focus explicitly on performance measurement for public health policy. [download this tool now]

The tool provides examples of measures a health department may use to evaluate the sucess of its policy activities. Using the tool as a guide, health departments can also download a table template and fill-in their specific activities and measures.

PHF and APHA jointly conducted a training on use of the tool during the APHA mid-year meeting in June 2012. The training was attended by 19 Performance Improvement Managers representing grantees of the National Public Health Improvement Initiative (NPHII).

We encourage and welcome your suggestions for improvement and other feedback; please contact PHF_Resources@phf.org.
